Been doing this for a long time — on long weekend rides, I typically go out on black coffee, and start eating about 2 hours into the ride (and keep eating at regular intervals until the ride is over). YMMV, of course: I'm no elite athlete, and don't race, but I do think this training has enabled me to go longer and avoid the bonk.

Unless I want to bonk. You know — bonk bonk bonk bonk bonk. Take that, Brits.
